I love the idea of an 8 week blogging challenge to get students comfortable with blogging. The teacher offered creative and engaging topics to get the students started on the weekly blogs but there was a lot of latitude for the students to get creative. The students selected many different subjects for each week’s theme although all the posts related to that week’s theme. Students’ ages ranged from 5-18 so their responses to the topics were from varying perspectives.
I think creating an activity such as this would be a great way to introduce our employees to participating in online postings and collaboration. Instead of an 8 week project, I think I would start with an instructor’s daily or weekly blog while they begin the program to get them all acquainted with each other and as a forum for them to share and ask questions. I can then envision them creating their own logs and this lasting throughout the 4 year apprenticeship program where the students could reflect on experiences with their on-the-job-training and different challenges they face while working out in the field.

Hi Jackie –
I really liked the eight-week blogging challenge as well. It was neat to see kids getting excited about writing! It would also work well in the scenario you have talked about for your company.
